How I Choose My Favorite Paris Hotels

How do I choose my favorite hotels in Paris? Well, a lot of it is extensive research prior to my trip and just trying them out. But here are other things I consider while choosing a Paris hotel.

  • Where I want to stay: I love checking out different arrondissements in Paris and staying there helps me dive deeper.
  • Walkability: I love walking and aim to stay closer to attractions I want to see.
  • Metro access: I love a hotel that is close to a good metro stop.
  • Food & nightlife: If I can walk to some great cafes, bars, and restaurants, then I’m happy.
  • Boutique hotels over chains: I will stay in a chain, but I much prefer boutique hotels.
  • Quiet: The hotel either needs to be tucked away in a quiet area or is a quiet hotel.
  • Local favorites: I like staying in areas my local friends love too!

Now that you know what my criteria are in finding the perfect hotel for each trip to Paris, let’s break it all down by arrondissement.

My Favorite Hotels in Paris (By Area)

These are where I love to stay in Paris, and I hope you fall in love with Paris after staying here too!

Le Marais-My Favorite Hotels

Garden at Place des Vosges

Le Marais (located in the 3rd/4th arrondissements) has been my favorite area to stay in Paris for a few years now. It kind of has it all: great metro options, amazing coffee shops, delectable restaurants, and SO many attractions like the Picasso Museum, Place des Vosges, and Marché des Enfants Rouges.

Le Marais is loved by both tourists and locals (in fact, one of my local Parisian friends lives here!). Yes, it is popular in some spots (looking at you, Carette), but there are many places to wander, people-watch, and enjoy.

I also love shopping in this area, whether it is for vintage clothing or perfume. And I love being able to walk to so many places while staying here as it is pretty central in Paris.

Here are a couple of hotels that I personally enjoy in Le Marais.

Hotel Jeanne d’Arc

Hotel Jeanne d'Arc

Why I love it:

This charming boutique hotel is a gem in the heart of Le Marais. Rooms here are cute and cozy, and you’re in a great location for exploring nearby shops, cafes, museums, and even Place des Vosges.

Best for:

Mid-range travelers who love a bit of charm without a super high price tag.

Insider tip:

This place does not have A/C, so if you’re here in the summer it can be hot. They do have strong fans. I stayed here in early May and it was great!

Book it here!

Le Temple de Jeanne

Why I love it:

This tucked away hotel feels hidden in plain sight. However, it is right next to the Saint-Paul metro stop, making it easy to get out and explore more of Paris. It is also walkable to Place des Vosges, my favorite falafel shop (L’As du Fallafel), and other great museums nearby.

Best for: Mid-range travelers who want to walk everywhere.

Insider tip: Get a room with a terrace for a cozy and fun stay!

Perfume shopping in Paris

Bucket List Spot: Hotel de JoBo (AKA Hotel de Josephine)

Why it’s on my list:

Another great hotel in a fabulous spot for exploring the sights, sounds, and tastes of Le Marais, I just love the design. This hotel has stunning wallpaper-clad rooms, a sexy little bar and tea room, and just has a fun vibe overall. It’s on my short list to stay in on a future trip!

Best For:

Those who want a splurgy-worthy stay for the vibes and walkability.

The Latin Quarter (in the 5th Arrondissement)- My Favorite Hotels

Paris Pantheon View

The Latin Quarter is iconic. It has a good mix of tourists, locals, and students as it is where the Sorbonne is located. You can also find some fantastic restaurants like La Petite Perigourdine, walk amongst 1st century Roman ruins (oh hey, Arènes de Lutèce!), and even enjoy one of my favorite museums in Paris: the Museum of the Middle Ages (AKA Cluny Museum).

The Latin Quarter is nestled along the Seine and is close to a lot of the main tourist attractions, but also has so much to see, do, and eat on its own. I absolutely love spending time in the Latin Quarter whether it is my 5th visit or 15th!

Here are some of my favorite hotels in the Latin Quarter:

Hotel Atmospheres

View from Hotel Atmospheres

Why I love it:

I have stayed here at least twice at this point, and it is my go-to hotel when I’m traveling with my parents or in-laws. That is because this hotel actually has a full-sized elevator for humans AND luggage (an absolute rarity in Paris!), and walk-in showers.

I love this because when I’m traveling with my aging parents and in-laws, they definitely appreciate an elevator and walk-in showers with their knees.

But even outside of it being more limited mobility-friendly, the staff are wonderful, the breakfast spread is delicious, you’re close to the Maubert – Mutualité metro stop (although I mostly took Bolt rides with my family), and it is close to one of my favorite boulangeries: Maison d’Isabelle.

Best for:

Those with more limited mobility and want to be close to the attractions!

Insider tip:

Get a room that overlooks the Rue des Ecoles for fun views of the area!

Book it here!

Relais Hotel du Vieux

Relais Hotel du Vieux

Why I love it:

Yes, it is technically in the 6th, but you’re like 2 streets over from the Latin Quarter so to me, it still counts!

I love this hotel as it is close to the Seine, but on a tucked away street so it isn’t loud. Plus, the rooms here are SUPER cute! There are wooden beams and fun wallpapered walls. I loved it. Plus, the staff are lovely.

Best for:

Those on shorter trips or just those who want convenience in general.

Insider tip:

This is steps from the Saint-Michel-Notre-Dame RER B stop. This means you can literally hop off the plane at CDG airport, get your bags, and jump on the RER B train straight here! It’s honestly super convenient.

Book it here!

Church in the Latin Quarter of Paris with the Pantheon in the background

Bucket List Spot: Hotel La Lanterne

Why it’s on my list:

This is in the heart of the Latin Quarter and has super cute rooms, is close to so much stuff, and it has a delightfully relaxing looking spa complete with a hammam and pool. I love a spa hotel, and this boutique hotel looks like a great spot to stay while in this arrondissement.

Best For:

Those who want walkability with ultimate relaxation.

Saint-Germain-des-Pres (in the 6th Arrondissement)- My Favorite Hotels

Saint Germain des Pres in Paris

Saint-Germain-des-Pres is buzzy and popular for a great reason! For starters, you’re within walking distance to several amazing Paris attractions like the Louvre, Notre Dame, Sainte-Chappelle and more.

It also has famous literary cafes like Les Deux Magots, Cafe de Flore, and Brasserie Lipp. Personally, I love Les Deux Magots, and at the moment, it still has my favorite hot chocolate in all of Paris.

I love Saint-Germain-des-Pres for people-watching, wandering around tucked away alleys, and even exploring my favorite little street: Cr du Commerce Saint-André. This is where to find my favorite restaurant: La Jacobine!

Here are places to stay in Saint-Germain-des-Pres:

Odeon area of Paris

Hotel Odeon Saint-Germain

Why I love it:

I’ve actually stayed here twice: once during the Olympics and once with girlfriends on a fun getaway to Paris! This hotel has super helpful and kind staff, and the rooms here are nice and relaxing.

I also love that it is in a perfect location: in a fairly quiet spot but super close to great cafes, bars, and restaurants!

Best for:

Those who want to be close to the main attractions of Paris but still have a tucked away spot.

Insider tip:

Skip breakfast here and head to Les Deux Magots nearby. Get the hot chocolate and watch the world go by as you sit outside. It’s far less crowded in the mornings!

Les Deux Magots in Saint Germain

Bucket List Spot: Hotel Da Vinci & Spa

Why it’s on my list:

Again, I love a spa hotel. And this charming, fairly affordable yet luxurious boutique hotel has a stunning spa that’ll make you feel like you’re enjoying a starry night!

Plus, so many attractions are walkable from here! And I love that the hotel only has 24 rooms, making it small and intimate.

Best For:

Boutique hotel lovers.

9th Arrondissement- My Favorite Hotels

Pigalle in Paris

This has been a growing favorite arrondissement of mine more recently. The more I stay in the 9th, the more and more I really enjoy it.

For starters, the 9th is an arrondissement of contrasts (which is honestly why I love it so much). You’ve got the big department stores like Galeries Lafayette Haussmann and Printemps Haussmann and the Palais Garnier over in the Opera neighborhood of the 9th.

And then you’ve got the nightlife focused, local coffee shop, a little gritty in some spots, but super fun and quirky Pigalle as you head north toward Montmartre.

Plus, depending on where you’re staying, you can walk to some of the main attractions in Paris like the Tuileries and the Louvre. Now this is more the case if you’re staying near Opera rather than Pigalle, but you can see how well-connected this area is!

Here are some great spots to stay in the 9th arrondissement:

Hotel Saint-Marc

Hotel Saint-Marc terrace

Why I love it:

Okay technically this is in the 2nd…but it’s like 2 blocks from the 9th in the Opera area so I still count it. I loved this hotel when I stayed here back in May 2023. I was back in Paris after a quick trip to Stockholm for the Eras Tour and came back to France for a friend’s wedding. And this hotel was perfect.

For starters, I could walk to so many places from here! Secondly, the rooms are super cute, and the bathroom was one of the best I’ve had in Paris (and after 17 visits…I’ve seen my fair share of hotel bathrooms here)! But my room was fairly spacious and very lovely (I stayed in the Deluxe room if that helps!).

But there is also a hammam and pool in the basement that is free for guests to use (you’ll want to reserve your spot) and I took full advantage of that! It was perfect to relax in after a long day of exploring!

Best for:

Those who want an affordable luxurious getaway close to the main sites.

Insider tip:

Reserve your spot for the hammam for the ultimate tranquility!

Hotel pool at Hotel Saint-Marc

I’ll be honest, the other times that I’ve stayed in the 9th arrondissement, they were in short-term rentals. And, while I loved this tiny boutique apartment hotel, I did have trouble with the hot water, which is why I don’t necessarily recommend it.

And the other Airbnb may have been one of the worst I’ve ever stayed in, so I won’t even mention that one. But I still loved the neighborhood.

But I do have a couple of bucket list hotels in the 9th to check out!

Pigalle Neighborhood in Paris

Bucket List Spot: Maison Souquet

Why it’s on my list:

This has been on my Paris bucket list for a long time. This hotel is so sexy with its velvety salon, Napoleon III and Arabian-style decor, and gorgeous spa. While I don’t necessarily have the funds to fork over for a night or two here at the moment, it’s on my list when I do save up for it!

Best for:

Those who want a sexy vibe and aesthetic to go with their stay in a unique neighborhood in Paris.

Book it here!

Bucket List Spot: Hotel Artemisia Montmartre

Room at Hotel Artemisia Montmartre
Photo by Amanda from A Dangerous Business.

Why it’s on my list:

Remember that terrible Airbnb I mentioned above? It got so bad (so much drama including a broken AC during a heat wave and a host lying about getting it fixed- spoiler alert: the person after us also didn’t have working AC either).

Long story short, one of my friends jumped ship and stayed here instead. And she had nothing but amazing things to say about it.

For starters, it did have strong AC. We were here during a heatwave in June and the struggle was real.

But it is such an adorable hotel with a spa in Pigalle.

Best for:

Those who love boutique hotels with a spa.

Book it here!

18th Arrondissement in Montmartre- My Favorite Hotels

Sacre Coeur church in Montmartre

Last but not least, I love Montmartre. It’s hilly, it’s dreamy, it’s romantic, and it even has Eiffel Tower views at a dog park. Seriously, check out Square Nadar…there is a dog park and you’ve got Eiffel Tower views!

Honestly, you can just wander the streets of Montmartre and eventually find Eiffel Tower views. But you’ve also got Paris’s most scenic street: Rue de l’Abreuvoir, great little restaurants, and so many spots both touristy and hidden gems alike!

Here are my favorite hotels in Montmartre:

Terrass Hotel

Terrass' Hotel in Paris

Why I love it:

This may be my favorite hotel in ALL of Paris. Again, after many hotel stays that is saying something! While it is a bit of a walk to the metro, this hotel has beautiful rooms, and you can even stay in a room with Eiffel Tower views!

My friend and I stayed here in February 2025 and upgraded to an Eiffel Tower view room and enjoyed watching her sparkle at night. We even caught the Eiffel Tower on her final sparkle of the evening with just the glitter with the remainder of the tower off. That is something I probably wouldn’t have seen if I wasn’t already in my pajamas.

Plus, they have a rooftop bar and restaurant where you can enjoy even more views!

Best for:

Those who want Eiffel Tower views and the charm of Montmartre.

Insider tip:

I think if you’re going to stay here, it is 100% worth paying for an Eiffel Tower view room!

Pro-tip: Check out the best hotels with Eiffel Tower views!

Hotel des Arts – Montmartre

Hotel des Arts Montmartre

Why I love it:

For starters, it is located near Rue Lepic (great for shopping and dining) and Rue des Abbesses (fun places for a drink and so charming).

But this place has friendly staff, cozy rooms, and is walkable to everything in Montmartre and isn’t too far from the metro.

Best for: Those who want comfort, walkability, and close metro stops in Montmartre.

Insider tip:

Book a double room with a view and request an Eiffel Tower view if you can!

Bucket List Hotel: Hotel Particulier

Hotel Particulier in Montmartre

Why it’s on my list:

This former mansion turned boutique hotel is now home to 5 suites…including one secret suite with amazing views of the city!

I’ve actually had brunch at this hotel before and loved how tranquil it felt. You can also enjoy the bar here. But I’d love to stay at this gorgeously designed hotel, particularly in that secret suite.

Best for:

Those who love a tranquil spot tucked away in one of Paris’s most beautiful neighborhoods.

My Favorite Mid-Range, Boutique, and Luxury Hotels

Terrass Hotel in Paris

Who doesn’t love a superlative? Here are my hotel rankings in Paris:

  • Best boutique hotel I’ve stayed in: Terrass Hotel. I mean it is my favorite for a reason between Eiffel Tower views, a rooftop bar, and cute rooms.
  • Best budget-friendly hotel I love: Hotel Atmospheres. While I wouldn’t call it a “budget hotel” (and I stay pretty mid-range for the most part), this one is reasonable for those who don’t want to spend $300+ a night (although, like almost all hotels in Paris, prices are higher in summer so sometimes it’s higher). Plus, in the winter, you can even find deals here for under $200 a night!
  • Best luxury hotel that’s worth the money: Maison Souquet. I haven’t stayed here yet, but it isn’t nearly as expensive as other 5-star hotels in Paris but has lovely amenities and a beautiful vibe. That’s why it’s high on my luxury bucket list of Paris.
  • Most convenient hotel in Paris: Relais Hotel du Vieux. I mean you can’t get more convenient than being able to get the RER B from CDG airport and go straight to your hotel that is within walking distance of the Saint-Michel-Notre-Dame stop. Plus, it is walkable with so much stuff!
  • Best place to stay for first timers: I have a full guide here!

Other Hotels I’ve Enjoyed in Paris

Here are a few other hotels that I’ve enjoyed in Paris that aren’t located in my all-time favorite areas mentioned above:

  • Cler Hotel: Located in the 7th on Rue Cler, this is a charming little hotel and in a great location for exploring the Eiffel Tower. However, while staying near the Eiffel Tower is nice, it is further from other areas, which is why I don’t stay in this area often.
  • Courtyard by Marriott Paris Gare de Lyon: Not a boutique hotel by any means, but this is super convenient if you plan to take the train south the next day, which is what I’ve done. I’ve stayed here twice. Oh, and the views can be fabulous! One time, I had an Eiffel Tower view and city view and the other time I looked out over Gare de Lyon!
  • Hotel Parisianer: Also located in the 12th arrondissement, this is a cute hotel! However, the 12th is a little further from the other areas of Paris which is why I don’t stay here often.

Map of My Favorite Places to Stay in Paris (Plus My Bucket List Spots)!

I think it is safe to say that I love Paris. A part of my life is there! I spend a lot of time here throughout the year in different places and different seasons to really understand this city. I’ve got local friends here.

I keep coming back and finding new things to do, fun places to eat, and more! This is why I love helping others discover Paris for the first time and why I’m so passionate about finding the best places to stay for your visit!

So that is why I made this list of tried and tested hotels that are my favorite places to stay in Paris!
